Life on the Farm

Today we had a fun field trip to a farm out in Shipshewana. The sweetest amish family shared their chores with us and showed us a little of what they do everyday.

We were able to watch the cows being milked

Churn cream till it was butter. After we shook it for an hour or so:) she drained all the excess cream off then rinsed it in a bowl and drained it until the water ran out clear. Very interesting.

Chopped them up

Layer on the press
Press the juice out
Watched apples be pressed to make apple cider. They had a homemade press that they invented that was 4 layers thick. Brilliant!

That looks like it was a lot of fun! We were planning on going, and Jeff was going to take 1/2 day off so he could go too, but Evie ended up getting the stomach flu at 1:00 in the morning :(. She was really sad that she missed going to the farm. You had a beautiful day for going!
